Lucca............

This is a real pleasant city to live in: its historical centre is not only rich in monuments, picturesque squares, medieval palaces and interesting museums, but also in shops and elegant boutiques that remind Lucca’s ancient merchant past: its story, in fact, is closely linked with the production of silk, which made this land be known through all Europe. These farsighted men started the enchanting tradition of building magnificent villas in the countryside to enjoy their life and dedicate themselves to agricultural enterprises.
Today, these villas still exist, witnessing the Lucchesi’s attitude to preserve their traditions, and some of them can be visited, because they have been transformed in museums or in charming hotels.
Lucca is also the birthplace of important composers, such as Giacomo Puccini, whose operas, “La Bohème”, “Tosca” and “Madama Butterfly” (maybe the most famous ones), are among the most frequently performed all over the world. This is why there are several music events to remember this illustrious citizen and certainly the most important one is “Festival Pucciniano”, held every year in Torre del Lago, a town on the Massacciuccoli Lake, a few minutes far from Lucca, where Puccini used to enjoy himself and compose his operas. But this is just a taste of the things that make Lucca and surroundings a beautiful and surprising place.
